Spectatorship-The Dark Knight

Image
Spectatorship: The Dark Knight When watching this film I took a preferred reading to the story as I was a passive audience member whilst watching it and accepted what was being told. I enjoyed the film as I liked the re-identification of the character Batman in the film as he is an iconic character, not only within cinema but also in the comic book world. This easily identified character is what overall made me a passive audience member as I enjoy the stories being told that involve the character. As well as this, the individuation of the characters in the film is also what made me take a preferred reading to it, as you have the binary opposites of Batman and the villain, the Joker. The narrative of the film and the two characters fighting one another over the ideas of good and bad is also an interesting aspect which made me like the film.  The opening of the film invites the audience from the outset as it sets up a lot of enigma codes from the start as well as lays out th

Independent Film case study

Case Study: Independent Film  Napoleon Dynamite: Napoleon Dynamite is an American independent film released in 2004 and directed by Jared Hess. What makes this film independent is that it only has a budget cost of $400,000 and was originally based on a short film called 'Peluca' made by Hess whilst he was in university. He was then convinced to make it into a feature length film, however no big production companies and script directors would back it due to it's 'too weird' ideas, so they looked for different investors separately to help produce it. The production cost of the film was $400,000, and Hess relied on the kindness of the locals of Preston in southeastern Idaho, to use their houses and for food for the crew. The film contains actors such as Jon Heder, who was a friend of Hess at school, and who could convincingly and effectively bring the main character to life. Heder was only paid $1,000 for his role, however after its success he was paid more f

Short Film assignment; Evaluation

Short Film assignment  Evaluation: The film we decided to make was based on the horror genre and consisted of two students meeting under concerning and terrifying circumstances. We decided at the start of our project to vary our use of camera angles such as using close up shots in order to create an up close and personal experience to create tension within the audience. We also wanted to create a movie with different perspectives in order to create an in depth experience of an uncomfortable situation. However, we also wanted to make the mise-en-scene of the characters realistic and age appropriate to create a film that starts of realistic to disconcerting to the audience, as it creates an environment that seems familiar but turns out not to be.  However, during our filming, we decided to take away one of the characters so it was a single character finding his own body instead and trying to solve the issue himself. In doing this it creates a sense of isolation in the film that

Short Film assignment

Short Film assignment Film ideas (individual idea): Book of life-man reading book of life, goes to shots of his past memories/family, gradually going through the book. End of the book gets crossed out, new note written, saying he dies at the end. Turns around, gets shot. Horror film idea- abandoned house, baby crying, people go into to see what the issue is, no baby inside, get locked in, timer starts with 1 hour, have to get out, being followed/watched by killer (undead nanny from 19th century). Train ride- guys been shot, bleeding out on the train, goes to flashbacks of the man and whole situations, keep cutting it to different places, non-chronological to add confusion, but pieces add up in the end. Gets off the train, falls onto the platform, unconscious. Ends. Thriller- a man suffering from schizophrenia is stalking a woman from work. The film starts showing that its been happening for a while, cutting to different shots quickly. Then rest of the film follows the man from
